Loma Fire Update: Noon 9/30/16

Fire Update:
4,313 Acres :: 34% Contained :: 1,968 Personnel :: 179 Engines :: 16 Helicopters :: 6 Air Tankers :: 61 Hand Crews :: 32 Dozers

Overnight, the fire remained active while firefighters continued to build and reinforce containment lines around the fire perimeter. Accessibility to the fire is hampered by narrow and congested roads. Today's weather is predicting north to northwest winds increasing this afternoon as a cold front moves through central California. The fire is burning in steep inaccessible terrain covered in dry drought stressed fuels, burning in the Mt. Loma Prieta, Mt. Chual and Uvas Creek drainages.

Current local park and road closures:
Both sides of Christmas Hill Park are now CLOSED to the public.
The bike and walking trails behind Solarsano Middle School are also closed.
The paved levy trail, next to Uvas Park Drive is open.
Miller Avenue (between W Luchessa Ave and Uvas Dr) is closed to thru traffic.
We will continue to have heavy fire and equipment use on the following roads: Santa Teresa Blvd, Hecker Pass, Club Drive (behind Solarsano), Syrah Ct and Masten Ave. Please use caution in these areas.

The following roads are closed near the fire area:
o Loma Prieta Road 1 mile east of Highland Way
o Summit Road at Ormsby Cutoff
o Croy Road 3 miles west of Uvas Road
o Casa Loma Road and McKean Road

Santa Clara County: Mandatory evacuation orders for the Loma Prieta ridgeline area including all tributary roads along Summit Road from Soquel San Jose Road to Ormsby Fire Station. This includes Uvas Canyon County Park, Loma Chiquita, Casa Loma, and Loma Prieta Way. Portions of Croy Road are under an evacuation warning.

Santa Cruz County: All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted. Evacuation alerts in Santa Clara County can be received by signing up for AlertSCC, visit:

Please do not bring donations to the CAL FIRE Loma Fire Base Camp. While greatly appreciated, the camp is well supplied and self-sufficient.

The Red Cross does not have the facilities to accept food or goods, but can accept monetary donations:
