Home Access Grants for Very Low Income Disabled Gilroy Residents

Grants to provide disabled residents with help in safely entering and exiting their homes and accessing essential areas within their homes are available through the Housing and Community Development section of the City of Gilroy’s Planning Division.

There is an income eligibility requirement for this program. For example, a single-person household must earn less than $36,300 annually. A two-person household must earn less than $41,450 annually. The limit increases by family size. Applicants can be either homeowners or tenants. The work is done by licensed contractors.

To date, at no charge, this program has provided very low-income disabled Gilroy residents with wheelchair ramps, modification of steps to low-rise, wheelchair lifts, modified shower areas, grab bars and handrails.

The funding comes from the City’s federal Community Development Block Grant.
