Community Invited to Join Volunteers for Clean-Up
On Saturday, April 26th, The Gilroy Interfaith Council, comprised of the City of Gilroy and Local Churches, is hosting a Family Service Day. Over 600 volunteers will participate in this day of service designed to help our local community.

Veterans Community Outreach Program May 3rd
The local American Legion Post 217 will be hosting a community outreach program for veterans on Saturday, May 3rd at the Gilroy Veterans Hall, 74 West 6th Street, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Let There Be Light – Take the Survey
The engineering department has setup a pilot program at the Eliot neighborhood to showcase the new light emitting diodes (LED) street lighting technology. There are a total of nine (9) lights covering a total of three streets (Alexander St., Forest St and Chestnut St.) in the pilot program. If you have the time please drive by and let us know what you think by filling out a very quick 30 second online survey

Response to Gilroy Dispatch Appeal of Public Records Denial
Pursuant to the Gilroy Open Government Ordinance, the Gilroy City Administrator has provided a response to an administrative appeal by the Gilroy Dispatch related to a denial for access to certain records. The response highlights California law which prohibits the city from disclosing the protected information. The Dispatch can appeal the matter to the city’s Open Government Commission which can make a recommendation to the city council on the matter.

Notice of Highway 101 Road Work beginning April14
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin Monday, April 14 to saw cut, remove and replace some existing concrete pavement slabs at various locations on State Route 101 in the southbound and northbound directions from .3 mile south of Cochrane Road exit in Morgan Hill to .2 mile south of Leavesley Road exit in Gilroy.

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting to fill 5 volunteer seats
There are open seats on the Arts and Culture Commission and Public Art Committee, Planning Commission and Personnel Commission. Applications for these open seats are due by Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Interviews with the City Council will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. CDBG Public Review Period for the 2014 Program Year
The public is invited to comment on the draft Action Plan for Gilroy’s Community Development Block Grant Program for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014. Comments may be provided in writing or in person as more fully described in the linked documents.

Save the dates for Coffee with the Mayor
In an effort to provide an additional, informal forum in which residents can discuss issues and concerns with the mayor, Gilroy Mayor Don Gage has set up the next Coffee with the Mayor events. The next dates are scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2014, Saturday, May 31, 2014 and Saturday, June 28, 2014 in the Gilroy Council Chambers at 9:30 a.m.

Around Town – Safer Routes to Schools
Utilizing a $697,000 federal grant, construction is now underway at 26 locations throughout Gilroy to provide safer routes to schools for Gilroy school children and other pedestrians. All construction work will be completed in May of 2013. View Video
