Message From the Chief
My name is Jeff Clet and my family and I have lived in Gilroy for over 30 years. I previously served as the full-time Gilroy Fire Chief from 2002-2004. Just returning in January 2019, as Interim Fire Chief, I am still very familiar with the Gilroy Fire Department, the City and the Community.
Gilroy Fire Department provides Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services 24 hours a day every day of the year. Our dedicated men and women are always on-duty to meet the needs of the Community.
We currently have 3 fire stations each staffed with 3 personnel available around the clock to provide services to our ever growing population of over 50,000 residents. The geographical area of the City covers over 16 square miles and includes a variety of residential, commercial, retail, agriculture, and industrial occupancies as well as a significant portion of the City that borders hillside wildland areas. In 2018 our department responded to over 5,000 calls for service.
Located at the intersection of 2 major transportation arteries, Gilroy is the southern gateway to the Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. Gilroy is internationally recognized as the “Garlic Capital of the World”, in part because it hosts an annual Garlic Festival that attracts thousands of residents and visitors each year. In addition, the City has the Gilroy Gardens theme park and the Gilroy premium outlets which also draw visitors from afar.
Whether you are a resident, a visitor, or are just passing through, we hope you will never need our services but if you do, please know that the professionals of the Gilroy Fire Department stand ready to assist you.
