Economic development is a key component of the Community Development Department's team that works across divisions and departments to streamline commercial and industrial development. For general building permit and other building permit questions, please call 408-846-0451 and leave a message. Alternatively, you can come into City Hall during our normal business hours. We can take in applications, review plans, complete inspections, and issue permits.
On-site inspections will only be conducted on those sites adhering to safety protocols outlined in Appendix B. Some inspections may be performed remotely through the use of photos or videos. Please go to the Building-Safety-Division page for more information or call 408-846-0451. Electronic building plan submittals are being accepted and reviewed. All electronic submittal communication will take place over email, phone, or other electronic means. To submit plans, email Plan Submittal an electronic copy of your plans.

Alternatively, you can come into City Hall during our normal business hours. We can take in applications, review plans, complete inspections, and issue permits.
Please email the Planning Division to submit your applications digitally. Application materials may either be attached to the email or shared with a file sharing service such as Box.com.
New applications will be assigned to a planner who will reach out to you remotely. After a planner has reached out, they will provide an invoice to pay for permit fees.
Resubmittals can be sent electronically directly to the planner assigned to your project. Please contact the planner assigned to your project for information on planning inspections.
Fire Inspection, Hazardous Materials and Wastewater Pre-Treatment
Fire Prevention staff are conducting construction inspections, state mandated inspections and responding to life/safety matters. If there is an immediate threat, please call 9-1-1. For non-urgent life/safety fire inspection, hazardous materials or pre-treatment matters, please call 408-846-0451 and leave a message.
Housing and Community Services Division
The Division implements projects and programs to address housing needs for a diverse community and provides assistance to families and individuals that are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. The Division focuses on affordable housing production, preservation, and protection of residents.
8th and Alexander Affordable Housing Update
The County of Santa Clara and the City of Gilroy are partnering to help meet the affordable housing needs in Gilroy. An affordable housing development is proposed at 8th Street and Alexander Street. See website for more information.
