As Gilroy’s population has grown, the volume of calls for public safety services has also increased. As a result, shortfalls in public safety have been identified based on independent analysis and assessment of Gilroy’s public safety staffing levels and resources. If approved, funds from Measure C, the Public Safety Sales Tax, would only be allowed to be used for Police, Fire, and Public Safety, including staffing, infrastructure, and services.
Based on recent assessments, multiple positions are needed in both Police and Fire:
Police Department:+15 new positions Fire Department: +17 new positions
In addition to funding additional public safety staff positions, the Measure C Public Safety Sales Tax would be used to help fund public safety infrastructure that is essential for our community. Public Safety Infrastructure—Funding would be used to maintain, enhance, and construct fire and police stations and related infrastructure, including the new fire station in the Santa Teresa Fire District and also seismically retrofitting the Chestnut and Las Animas Fire Stations.
