The City of Gilroy was recently notified that Cal Fire, in collaboration with County Parks, is conducting three separate prescribed burns from October 8th to 10th.
Yesterday, Tuesday, October 8th, Gilroy experienced heavy smoke from the prescribed burn at Calero County Park, which led to a significant drop in air quality during the afternoon.
The next two burns are scheduled for today, Wednesday, October 9th through Friday, October 11th. Both are located approximately 35 miles northeast of Gilroy near Grant County Park.
According to the National Weather Service, the prescribed burns scheduled for today through Friday are not expected to cause the same level of smoke impact as yesterday as winds are forecasted to carry the smoke eastward.
