[ARCHIVED] Statement from Mayor Greg Bozzo

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the City of Gilroy staff, local businesses, property owners, mobile vendors, residents, and my fellow councilmembers for their swift and collaborative work in launching the food truck pilot program. This effort is a perfect example of how we can unite to make meaningful progress for our community.

This initiative represents a major step forward in balancing the diverse needs of Gilroy while aligning the interests of businesses, property owners, and public health and safety. Striking this kind of balance is key to achieving both short-term economic activity and long-term prosperity for our city.

Government doesn’t have to be slow or inflexible—endless studies, delays, and bureaucracy don’t have to be the norm. We can do better. The pilot program’s adaptable approach allows us to refine the process as we go, ensuring we find the right fit for Gilroy.

By starting with clear but adjustable guidelines, this mobile vending pilot program lets real-world feedback shape the final ordinance. We’ll test factors like the ideal number of food trucks, their locations, operating hours, and permitting—making changes as needed to best serve our residents.

Our quick action on this issue reaffirms the City Council and staff’s commitment to supporting food trucks as a vital part of Gilroy’s growth. They bring economic energy, cultural vibrancy, and new opportunities for local spending—all while fostering community connections.

As your Mayor, I remain dedicated to cultivating a thriving, inclusive city where food trucks work hand-in-hand with local businesses and neighborhoods, all within a framework that prioritizes safety and smart zoning. This effort proves that when we collaborate, we can overcome challenges and keep moving Gilroy forward—together.
