We get it; storing stuff in the front yard area can be tempting, especially in the land of endless sunshine, California! But here’s the scoop: just because it’s tempting doesn’t mean it’s okay.
Let’s chat about Gilroy Code Section 5C and why it matters to us all . . .
To help ensure the health, safety, and charm of our community, we have laws that govern what can and can’t be stored or kept in the front yard areas of residential property. Front yard areas include the visible side yard areas, driveway and other paved areas, and the front yard.
We’ve included a few specifics from the Code Section below; for more information about storing or parking in your front yard area, please reference the code at the link below.
In general, please keep your property in a well-maintained condition and prevent any blight.
Remember:
- No Garbage: Keep garbage out of your front yard area.
- No Rubbish, Materials, Containers, or Household Items: No storing rubbish, materials, containers, or household items in your front yard area.
- No Construction Materials: Front yard areas are not the place to store used or unused construction materials.
- No Refrigerators or Appliances: Keep indoor appliances, like washing machines and stoves, indoors.
- No Furniture: Only outdoor furniture is allowed in your front yard area.
- Paved Parking Only: No parking on unpaved parts of your front yard area.
- Inoperable Vehicles: Don’t let inoperable vehicles sit in your front yard area for more than 72 hours.
Let’s remember to be good neighbors and follow these rules, ensuring our city stays vibrant and thriving.
