[ARCHIVED] Another storm is coming. Are you ready?

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting rain starting Wednesday afternoon (1/31) into Thursday (2/1), with rains predicted to continue on and off into next week. NWS has also issued a wind advisory for the Gilroy area from 7 AM on Wednesday through 4 AM on Thursday.

If you are out and about over the next few days, please use caution, slow down, and leave extra time in your schedule for possible delays.

⚠️ With this storm, Gilroy may experience localized flooding and downed trees.

Storm Preparedness Resources

🌧️ Sand and sandbags are available outside the gate of the Gilroy Corporation Yard, located at 613 Old Gilroy Street. Residents are advised to bring their shovels and a friend to assist. Additional sandbag locations can be found at valleywater.org/sandbags.

🌧️ To report downed trees or localized flooding on City streets, please call the Gilroy Police Department non-emergency number at 408-846-0350.

🌧️ To report local creek blockages and flooding, please call Valley Water at 408-630-2378.

🌧️ To view or report power outages, please visit https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/outagecenter/.

🌧️ To report downed power lines, leave the area immediately and call 9-1-1. Then call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.

Warming Centers and Overnight Sheltering Resources

Santa Clara County is operating several warming centers throughout the storm including the:

☂️ Gilroy Library, located at 350 W 6th Street | Open Wednesday from 1 PM – 9 PM and Thursday from 10 AM – 6 PM

☂️ Morgan Hill Library, located at 660 W Main Ave | Open Wednesday from 12 PM – 9 PM and Thursday from 10 AM – 6 PM

🛏️ Overnight sheltering may be available at the South County Armory through HomeFirst. Call 408-539-2105 for help or to direct someone in need of assistance.

🛏️ Overnight sheltering may also be available at the Community Christian Church in Morgan Hill. Call 408-763-7120 for a referral.

🛏️ Additional warming centers may be found on the County’s website at https://emergencymanagement.sccgov.org/residents/cold-weather-safety

🛏️ Additional resources for securing overnight sheltering may be available through the County. Call the Here 4 You Call Center hotline at 408-385-2400 for assistance.

El Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (NWS, por sus siglas en inglés) pronostica lluvias a partir del miércoles por la tarde (31/1) hasta el jueves (1/2), con lluvias previstas para continuar intermitentemente hasta la próxima semana. El NWS también ha emitido un aviso de viento para el área de Gilroy desde las 7 AM del miércoles hasta las 4 AM del jueves.
