[ARCHIVED] Excessive Heat Warning Extended through Wednesday, July 10

Excessive heat warning from now until Wednesday, July 10

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for our area. Peak temperatures are expected to be in the 100s tomorrow, July 2, through Saturday, July 6 and in the high 90s on Sunday, July 7 through Wednesday, July 10. 

In addition, a red flag warning has been issued for areas west of Gilroy from July 1 through Saturday, July 6, at 9:00 PM. 

Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow hot weather safety tips and red flag warning safety tips including: 

‼️ Never leave people or pets in vehicles 

‼️ Limit outdoor activities during the afternoon and evening 

‼️ Stay hydrated and take cooling breaks 

‼️ Prevent fires by avoiding trimming of dry grass, avoiding the use of equipment that could cause sparks, and making sure that cigarette butts and campfires are properly extinguished  

Cooling Centers will be open this week in Gilroy as follows: 

 Wednesday 7/3: Gilroy Library from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM 

Thursday 7/4: Gilroy Library Lobby from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM & Gilroy Senior Center from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM 

️ Friday 7/5: Gilroy Library from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM AND Gilroy Senior Center from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM 

️ ️Saturday 7/6: Gilroy Library from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM AND Gilroy Senior Center from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM 

️ ️Sunday 7/7: Gilroy Library from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

️ ️Monday 7/8: Gilroy Library from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM

️ ️Tuesday 7/9: Gilroy Library from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM

VTA will be providing free rides to cooling centers through Tuesday.

El Servicio Nacional de Meteorología ha emitido una advertencia de calor excesivo para nuestra área. Se esperan temperaturas máximas en los 100s mañana, 2 de julio, hasta el sábado, 6 de julio, y en los altos 90s del domingo, 7 de julio, hasta el miércoles, 10 de julio.

Además, se ha emitido una advertencia de bandera roja para las áreas al oeste de Gilroy desde el 1 de julio hasta el sábado, 6 de julio, a las 9:00 PM.

Se alienta a los residentes y visitantes a seguir los consejos de seguridad para el clima cálido y las advertencias de bandera roja, incluyendo:

‼️ Nunca dejes a personas o mascotas en vehículos

‼️ Limita las actividades al aire libre durante la tarde y noche

‼️ Mantente hidratado y toma descansos para refrescarte

‼️ Prevén incendios evitando recortar pasto seco, evitando el uso de equipos que puedan causar chispas y asegurándote de que las colillas de cigarrillos y fogatas estén completamente apagadas

Los Centros de Enfriamiento estarán abiertos esta semana en Gilroy de la siguiente manera:

❄️ Miércoles 3/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 1:00 PM a 9:00 PM

❄️ Jueves 4/7: Vestíbulo de la Biblioteca de Gilroy de 10:00 AM a 6:00 PM y Centro para Adultos Mayores de 12:00 PM a 6:00 PM

❄️ Viernes 5/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 10:00 AM a 6:00 PM y Centro para Adultos Mayores de 6:00 PM a 9:00 PM

❄️ Sábado 6/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 10:00 AM a 6:00 PM y Centro para Adultos Mayores de 6:00 PM a 9:00 PM

❄️ Domingo 7/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 1:00 PM a 5:00 PM

❄️ Lunes 8/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 1:00 PM a 9:00 PM

❄️ Martes 9/7: Biblioteca de Gilroy de 1:00 PM a 9:00 PM

VTA proporcionará viajes gratuitos a los centros de enfriamiento hasta el martes.
