In July, VTA kicked off a station access planning effort for the Gilroy Transit Center. The study is focused on identifying multimodal transportation improvements to enhance station access from the surrounding neighborhood. Recommendations may include improving bicycle connectivity, pedestrian access, wayfinding signage, transit passenger amenities, traffic calming measures and/or other safety enhancements. The study will develop access improvements and cost estimates for the station site and surrounding station area (within ½ mile) for future funding opportunities.
The study is funded by Caltrans’ Sustainable Planning grant and is being conducted in close collaboration with City of Gilroy and California High Speed Rail Authority. A draft report is anticipated in February 2025.
Upcoming Engagement
VTA is kicking off Phase 1 of their engagement process in August. This first phase of engagement is focused on identifying current access barriers to the station and gaps within the station area. They will be hosting several pop-up tabling sessions where community members can provide their feedback in person. They will also have an online survey that will be open from August 6th – Sept 6th to reach the broader community. Paper surveys and drop boxes where surveys may be dropped off will be available in select locations around town (locations TBD- check VTA’s website for updates:
