What: Public Safety Sales Tax Ballot Measure Community Meeting

When: Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00 PM

Where: Council Chambers located at 7351 Rosanna Street

With population growth and increasing demand for public safety services, there is a need to increase the City’s investment in public safety. To help address the public safety challenge, the Gilroy City Council has carefully considered the options and proposed a Public Safety Sales Tax Measure be included on the November 5th ballot for Gilroy voters to consider.

If approved by 2/3 of voters, as California state law requires, this 0.25% sales tax would help fund public safety. The tax would be applicable to a variety of goods; however, groceries and prescription medicines would not be subject to the tax.

The tax would be audited and overseen by a Citizen Oversight Committee, which would ensure the responsible and transparent use of the funds, reviewing expenditures annually.
