City of Gilroy and Glen Loma Ranch Reach Agreement to Provide Land and Crucial Funds Toward Santa Teresa Fire Station
Tuesday, October 8, 2024 (Gilroy, CA): The City of Gilroy is delighted to announce a new agreement with Glen Loma Ranch, approved at the October 7, 2024, City Council meeting. This agreement brings a contribution of $7.2 million in funds to the City from Glen Loma Ranch, in addition to the $2.4 million already received by the City, and the dedication of a parcel of land for the construction of the Santa Teresa Fire Station. Although the Glen Loma Ranch development will not reach the buildout contemplated in the Development Agreement entered nearly 20 years ago, these contributions reflect the genuine commitment of Glen Loma Ranch to the essential services of a community in which they, too, are residents and businesses. The establishment of this fire station, which will serve the growing western Gilroy community, including the Glen Loma Ranch development, is a significant step towards enhancing emergency response times and improving public safety for all residents.
As part of the 2005 Development Agreement, Glen Loma Ranch was responsible for building a fire station. However, over the years, as the development progressed at a lower buildout than initially planned, the development intensity did not reach the level that required completion of the fire station per the 2005 Development Agreement. The revised agreement now requires Glen Loma Ranch to immediately contribute financial resources and land, which brings the timeline for fire station construction under the authority of the City.
Mayor Marie Blankley highlighted the collaboration's significance, stating, "This agreement is a vital step toward building the Santa Teresa Fire Station, which will enhance public safety and improve emergency response times for the entire community. We appreciate Glen Loma Ranch's commitment to this project. Their genuine dedication to resolving this long-standing issue, together with our City staff, will benefit Gilroy for future generations."
"We are proud to partner with the City of Gilroy on this important project that will benefit the entire community," said Glen Loma Ranch Representative Augie Dent. "Our contribution of land and funding reflects our commitment to supporting the community's long-term well-being and ensuring that essential services are in place as the area continues to grow."
The Santa Teresa Fire Station will be a crucial addition to the City's emergency services, providing faster response times and reinforcing the City's unwavering commitment to public safety. The station's architectural design has already been completed, and construction is expected to commence soon.
