The Point-in-Time Count (PIT) is a nationwide census count of people experiencing homelessness that is planned and carried out locally. Communities across the country conduct comprehensive counts of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness as well as people who are sheltered in emergency shelters and transitional housing.
The PIT is a crucial initiative to understand and address homelessness in Gilroy and Santa Clara County. By conducting an accurate and comprehensive count, we gain valuable insights into our unhoused neighbors' unique needs and challenges. This knowledge, in turn, enables us to create more effective strategies to provide support and resources to those experiencing homelessness in our community.
