Jimmy Forbis, City Administrator Announces Planned Retirement

Tuesday, June 24, 2025 (Gilroy, CA): After nine years of service to the Gilroy community, Jimmy Forbis, City Administrator for the City of Gilroy, has announced his intention to retire, effective July 31, 2025.

During his tenure, Forbis played a key role in guiding the City through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.  He strategically expanded the City’s workforce by adding key positions while creating both the Utilities Department and the Housing Division.  He helped negotiate a large housing development project, securing over $4 million in public benefit funding for the community. He also led the establishment and implementation of the City’s Pension Trust Fund, an initiative designed to protect future service levels by offsetting long-term pension liabilities.

“Serving this wonderful community as City Administrator for five years, and previously as your Finance Director for four years, has been the highlight of my career and a profound honor” Forbis said.  “I am truly thankful for the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated community that is passionate about what’s best for Gilroy and committed to making it a vibrant and thriving city.”

Mayor Greg Bozzo thanked Forbis for his commitment and professionalism throughout his tenure.

“From my first day in office, Jimmy has approached his role with the utmost professionalism, optimism, and a deep sense of responsibility to our residents,” said Mayor Bozzo. “We are thankful for his many years of dedicated service.”

The City Council will soon begin discussions on the transition process and the search for a successor. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.

The City of Gilroy thanks Mr. Forbis for his service and leadership and wishes him well in retirement.
