Between Saturday, February 18, 2023, and Sunday, February 19, 2023, the Gilroy Fire Department responded to three reported structure fires.

One of the fires, located on the 7200 block of Hanna Street, appears to be accidental. The second and third structure fires, located on the 5900 block of Obata Way and Christmas Hill Park, are currently being investigated as suspicious fires.

Any structure fire, including that of a home or commercial building, is considered a first-alarm fire and necessitates mutual aid resources. In this instance, the additional resources included response by Santa Clara County Fire Department and the San Jose Fire Department.

Mutual aid resources are provided through an agreement between local fire agencies to help each other across jurisdictional boundaries when situations necessitate assistance. In this instance, the mutual aid agreement worked exactly as it was supposed to, providing additional fire resources to help with the fires and to cover any additional emergency that may have arisen during the response period.

The two suspicious fires are currently under investigation, and there appears to be no connection and no public safety risk.
