Over the past several years, community members have expressed strong interest in the development of public pickleball courts to meet the growing demand for the sport in Gilroy. In response, the Parks and Recreation Commission identified pickleball courts as a priority park improvement to enhance recreational opportunities for residents.

Project Overview 

On October 6, 2025, the Gilroy City Council approved a six-court concept for the Las Animas Veterans Park Pickleball Courts Project. 

In addition to the pickleball courts, the project includes reconfiguration of the large-dog area within the dog park, installation of new trees and windscreens, and construction of new accessible paths of travel connecting the courts and dog park to the existing parking lot.

Current Project Phase

The project is currently in the design phase. Construction will begin in Summer 2026. The City anticipates opening the Las Animas Veterans Park Pickleball Courts in late summer 2026.
