Voting FAQs

  1. Where do I turn in my vote-by-mail ballot?  Vote-by-mail ballots can be turned in through the mail, dropped off at an Official Ballot Box, or starting October 31 they can be dropped off in-person at a Vote Center.
  2. If I vote by a vote-by-mail ballot can I also vote in-person at a Vote Center, and will my vote be counted twice?  No.   Only one ballot can be cast per registered voter.  The Registrar of Voters will count the first ballot cast.
  3. How can I tell if my ballot has been received and my vote has been counted?  You can sign up to track your ballot at http://WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov
  4. Where and when can I vote in-person?  In-person voting will be available beginning October 31, 2020, through November 3, 2020, at the following locations:
    1. Gilroy Police Department Community Room located at 7301 Hanna Street
    2. Gilroy’s First Baptist Church – Fellowship Hall located at 8455 Wren Avenue
    3. Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567 located at 2765 Hecker Pass Highway
  5. What do I do with my Vote by Mail ballot if I want to vote in-person at a Vote Center?  Bring your ballot with you and turn it in at the Vote Center.
  6. Are Gilroy voters only able to vote at a Gilroy Vote Center?  No.   Gilroy voters have the option to vote at any Vote Center in Santa Clara County, October 31, 2020, through November 3, 2020.  For a full listing of Vote Centers visit https://www.sccgov.org/sites/rov/VBM/Pages/VoteEarly.aspx

  2. Check your voter registration info at http://VoterStatus.sos.ca.gov 
  3. Sign up to track your ballot at http://WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov 

Official Secure Ballot Drop-Boxes are located outside: Gilroy Council chambers, Gilroy library, Rod Kelly School, and Gavilan College Student Center.

 In-person voting is available at any Santa Clara Co. Vote Center beginning October 31, 2020 to November 3, 2020

Voter Centers will be following Public Health protocols and all voters will be required to 

  • wear a mask (masks will be supplied for voters who need one), and 
  • social distance.

  • Last Day to Register to Vote:  October 19, 2020
  • If you miss the last day to Register to Vote, Voters can use Conditional Voter Registration – October 20, 2020 – November 3, 2020
  • County Voter Information Guide Mailing Period:  September 24 – October 13, 2020
  • Vote-By-Mail Ballot Mailing Period:  October 5 – October 27, 2020
  • Vote Centers Open:  October 31, 2020 – November 3, 2020
  • Remote Accessible Vote by Mail Ballots – October 5, 2020 – November 3, 2020.  Military & Overseas voter were sent a ballot September 4, 2020 – September 19, 2020
  • Weekend Voting at the Registrar of Voters (ROV) Office:  October 24, 2020 – October 25, 2020 & October 31, 2020 – November 1, 2020
