The following table provides a general summary of the City's benefits for full-time employees. Benefits may vary based upon the position and bargaining unit. 
 

 
City Benefit Summary
Vacation

Two to four weeks per year based on length of service.

Holidays

Ten holidays per year.

Sick Leave

Twelve days per year.

Cafeteria Plan - Medical and Dental

Choice of PPO and HMO health plans through CalPERS.

Choice of PPO and HMO dental plans through Delta Dental.

The City contributes a cafeteria plan contribution for both Medical and Dental. The employee is responsible for paying the additional costs.

CalPERS Retirement Program

Miscellaneous Employees hired prior to January 1, 2013 and Classic Members of CalPERS hired on or after January 1, 2013. Police and Fire Safety Employees hired prior to January 6, 2011.

Retirement formulas are:

• 2.5% @ 55 miscellaneous plan

• 3% @ 50 police safety plan

• 3% @ 55 fire safety plan

Miscellaneous employees shall have a pre-tax payroll deduction of 8%. Police Safety employees shall have a pre-tax payroll deduction of 9%. Fire Safety employees shall have a pre-tax deduction of 9%.

One year final compensation is used for retirement formula. Unused sick leave credit, survivor benefits, military service credit and death benefits are available.

Police and Fire Safety Employees hired on or after January 6, 2011, but prior to January 1, 2013 and Classic Members hired on or after January 1, 2013.

Retirement formulas are:

• 2% @ 50 police safety plan

• 2% @ 55 fire safety plan

Police Safety employees shall have a pre-tax payroll deduction of 9%. One year final compensation is used for retirement formula.

Fire Safety employees shall have a pre-tax deduction of 7%. Three year average final compensation is used for retirement formula.

Unused sick leave credit, survivor benefits, military service credit and death benefits are available.

Miscellaneous, Police and Fire Safety Employees hired on or after January 1, 2013 categorized as New CalPERS Members.

 Retirement formulas are:

• 2% @ 62 miscellaneous plan

• 2.7% @ 57 police safety plan

• 2% @ 57 fire safety plan

Under PEPRA Retirement law, the employee and employer pay 50% of normal cost for the retirement contribution. Three year average final compensation is used for retirement formula. Unused sick leave credit, survivor benefits, military service credit and death benefits are available.

The City does not contribute to Social Security

Deferred Compensation

Employees may contribute pre-tax dollars towards a retirement savings plan through ICMA Retirement Corporation, CalPERS 457 or The Standard.

Life Insurance

Coverage amounts vary depending on bargaining unit (see applicable MOU). Additional employee and dependent insurance available at group rates through AFLAC.

Long Term Disability

City paid coverage.

Employee Assistance Program

City sponsored EAP through Concern - 12 visits per year for employees and dependents.

Flexible Spending Account

Section 125 Plan for pre-tax payment of out-of-pocket health expenses, dependent care, commuter benefit and city sponsored insurance premiums.
